Description:

The LED-AOI-01 is specially designed to drive the LED for AOI application. Compared to the conventional LED driver, this novel model using special current-control circuit to achieve extremely low current ripple (0.01% of full scale). Hence, there is no blink even under very low brightness setting. The mother control board is fully digitalized for easy field maintenance.
Each mother control board has 8 channels (channel 0 to channel 7), in which channel 7 supports only ON/OFF operation. If the value of channel 7 active register is great than zero, the current will be fully turned on to maximal current. This is very useful when high-speed snap shot is needed. The settling time of this channel is 1 ms. Channel 0 is a programmable high-speed channel, that is the output current can be programmed within 16383 levels, the settling time is about 2 ms. The other channels 1~6 are slow channels with 14-bit resolution designed for continuous illumination. The settling times of channel 1 to 6 are 136 ms, if switch-on-the-fly is performed.
The voltage supply of each channel has 3 selections, which is pre-assigned to the specific pins of the socket of the daughter driver. Each channel has 8 registers of 14-bit resolution, which can be pre-programmed through RS232 interface to define different brightness levels. It should be noted that the channel 7 needs only 2 registers for switch on and off, the other 6 registers can store some other machine data if desired.
During machine run condition, switching 4 digital I/O’s can activate one of the 8 registers of each channel to provide on-demand brightness (see the following section for detailed operation). There is also an additional I/O for switching ON/OFF all 8 channels simultaneously. As a result, the RS232 interface can be removed after the pre-adjustment stage. |

Digital I/O for active register selection:
There are 4 digital I/O’s responsible for selecting the active register of the specific channel, namely control bit (CTL), MSB, DSB, and LSB. The 3 digits of MSB, DSB, and LSB are used to represent a number from 0 to 7 for both channel number and register number. When CTL goes from high to low (falling edge), the 3 digits are sampled to be the channel number. When CTL goes from low to high (rising edge), the 3 digits are sampled to be the register number. The CTL should be remained HIGH during normal operation. The correct sequence of operation the 4 digital I/O’s is described as follows:
1. Select the channel number by setting the MSB, DSB, and LSB.
2. CTL is switched from high to low for channel sampling.
3. Select the register number by setting another set of MSB, DSB, and LSB.
4. CTL is switched from low to high for register sampling.
The timing diagram is illustrated as follows. The period ( Tr_s )from data ready to sample trigger should be 100 us minimum.
